This whole Anthology Collection is about blending the familiar with the experimental.
First up was The Harpy’s Tale with Sauternes casks, and now they’re pushing boundaries again with Madeira. Dr. Bill Lumsden calls it a “sweet and smoky hybrid,” and that’s exactly what you’re getting—Ardbeg’s classic smoke with a fruity twist. It’s complex, but nothing too over the top. A rare breed of Ardbeg indeed.
The Unicorn’s Tale, the second release in their Anthology Collection. Aged 14 years, this one’s got a bit of a twist—matured in a mix of rare Madeira wine and bourbon casks. You know Ardbeg’s all about that smoky kick, but here they’ve thrown in some sweet tropical . Think sweet peaches, lime, and menthol, but don’t worry, that signature Ardbeg smoke is still right there in the mix.
The third and final release in the anthology: Beithirs Tale, aged for 15 years in special designer charred bourbon casks, these barrels have been air seasoned, heavily toasted, and then lightly charred. With a nose that beguiles and charms, a mouthful that glides across the palate, and a finish that dwells long after the final sip, The Beithir's Tale is yet another rare and enduring spirit in The Ardbeg Anthology Collection.
Aroma:
Pungent, oily and spicy, rich notes of treacle wrap around creosote and smoked herbs. Toasted apples and raisins reveal a sweeter underbelly. With water, eucalyptus and menthol burst forth as fennel and pine trail behind.
Taste:
Astoundingly balanced, a sizzling mouthfeel leads into peat smoke, coffee grits and currents. Sweet lemon balsam entwines with smoked mandarins, followed by a sharp, smoky tang.
Finish:
Finally, a long, meandering finish brings with it subtle hints of vanilla and smoked butter.
