Unlike the original Elijah Craig bourbon, Toasted Barrel is softer, more dessert-like, and incredibly smooth. It also makes for a great sipping whiskey, with many tasters finding sweet marshmallow and milk chocolate tones reminiscent of smores by a campfire. The oak is present but not overpowering, with a touch of smokiness, as well as a long to medium finish.
