Named for 'Eight Songs for a Mad King', one of Peter Lehmann's favourite musical works, and first made in 1996 to be a decisively soft, stylish style of Barossa Shiraz. Fruit is sourced from old, low yielding vineyards in the Light Pass, Nuriootpa and Bethany districts. Deep crimson with purple hues, rich and fragrant with abundant satsuma plum, blueberry and dusty cedar. The palate is all about texture and mouthfeel, rich ripe plums, dark chocolate and a pure fruited, long savoury finish. Grapes harvested in the morning, fermented on skins up to two weeks, individual components matured separately through malolactic fermentation before blending and a further 18 months in French oak hogsheads, 40% new.
