What was thought to be a distinct Gamay Noir clone turned out, through DNA testing, to be an unknown clone of Pinot Noir. The 2025 vintage fruit came from Ian and Linda Quinn's Two Terraces vineyard in the Mangatahi Terraces, Hawke's Bay. It was made with gentle carbonic maceration in the Gamay and Beaujolais style, pressed to tank, and emerged hibiscus pink, showing red currants, strawberries and pomegranate with a textured, lingering finish. It drinks well year round, served cold or lightly chilled, and pairs with spicy food, charcuterie, fish, grilled vegetables and cheese. No additions were made at any stage including sulphur, the wine is unfiltered and unfined, and the grapes are certified organic from rows farmed biodynamically since 2020.
