Japan
Japan is not yet as synonomous with wine production as say France or New Zealand, however they have been producing wine for over a century. Sitting down to a meal with a glass of wine is still not such a familiar custom in Japan as it is here, but the people that do appreciate a vinous drop tend to opt for the higher end Bordeaux or Burgundy wines. More recently, wines from Japan have done well in international wine competitions and this has certainly helped to put them on the world stage as well as capture interest from consumers and international markets alike. It is their rice wine however, or Sake as we know it, that has gained popularity and we have some excellent examples available.
