ANTINORI
Tuscan to the core, the Antinori family have been making wine for over six hundred
years, since Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a paid-up member of the Florentine
Guild of Vintners back in 1385. This is a long time by anybody’s yardstick, and means
they were already well into their core business when Leonardo da Vinci was just down
the road attempting to invent a helicopter (a truly sobering thought, Chianti in hand or
not). They even own their own Renaissance-era palace.
Throughout a history spanning
twenty-six generations, the family have remained directly hands-on, making innovative
and often courageous choices, tempered by an unwavering respect for their
painstakingly earned traditions and the integrity of their Tuscan and Umbrian
landscapes.
Today, Marchese Piero Antinori directs the company, assisted by his three
daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia. A deeply-instilled understanding of heritage,
combined with a good dose of passion and instinct, have made Antinori one of Italy’s
leading fine wine producers.
