Nicolas calls this his homage to the great Barolo producer, Bartolo Mascarello. Why? He used to swap wine with him when he was alive and Bartolo often wondered aloud to Potel why he didn't just blend some of the vineyards together. To put it in context, Mascarello was/is one of the great traditionalist producers of Barolo and railed against the growing trend for single-vineyard bottling within his own region. So like he did with his Beaune 1er Cru Cuvee du Cinquantenaire, this is a blend of 1er Cru vineyards.
