Kirchberg de Ribeauvillé is one of the best Grand Cru in the region. The first documentation of its existence dates from 1328 and the name used as a vineyard designation (lieu-dit) long before the Grand Crus were officially designated. The vineyard is clay and sandstone, steep at the bottom and then flattens slightly towards the top at 350m on a south facing exposure. Very high density planting of 8300 vines/ha that average 40 years of age. This gives a style of Pinot Gris that are more austere and saline with powerful acidity.
