Les Jardins De Babylone Dry Jurancon
This is an outstanding and totally unique dry Jurancon. Without being disrespectful to the finest growers in the region, this wine is on another planet when it comes to quality. Unlike the sweeter moelleux wine which is 100% Petit Manseng, this is made from all five of Jurançon's permitted white grape varieties: Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng, as well as the indigenous and rarely grown Courbu, Lauzet, and Camarelet. The rarest of these Camarelet, dominates the blend. The winemaking is very similar to Dagueneau’s Blanc Fumé de Pouilly, using both stainless steel and 'cigar' barrels for the maturation, before putting the final blend together. The wine is simply stunning: complex, enigmatic and totally unconventional for the region. It has classic Dagueneau transparency, precision and coolness, yet also with a tender core of pulpy fruit and a driven, mineral finish. This is of a quality level previously unimaginable in Juracon, a must try.
