An exceptional Bordeaux tasting was had this week with Stéphane Laborie from Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. They have been one of the most famous Bordeaux negociants since they began in 1937. The Moueix family owns many of the greatest estates on the famed right bank of Bordeaux, including Château Pétrus, one of the most expensive wines in the world. They were instrumental in the rise of the reputation of the merlot dominated appellations of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion during the 1950s and 60s. Stéphane presented a stunning vertical tasting of two of their finest properties. Three wines from Château Belair-Monange, perhaps the most elegant and beautiful of all Saint-Emilion. Their second wine Annonce de Belair Monange 2014 and 2015 which were both fabulous. Then the incredibly elegant and refined Château Belair-Monange 2016. This is a property that will be among the greatest wines in Bordeaux within two decades. We followed that up with three great vintages of the legendary and hedonistic Château La Fleur-Pétrus, situated literally a stones throw from Pétrus itself. 2016, 2015 and 2010. Ståphane described them as the three greatest vintages ever produced at the Chateau. The 2010 was an absolute showstopper, and at $500 a bottle, a rare chance to try a wine at this level. Well worth the $50 ticket!
