An incredible evening was had this month at The French Kitchen - Sid at The french Cafe. Jérôme Pilet was here in New Zealand for the first time from AXA Millésimes in Bordeaux. In 1987 they purchased Château Pichon Baron in Pauillac. We were lucky enough to be able to co host this dinner with him, and four Jeroboam (5L) bottles of Pichon Baron. These were specially shipping over direct from the Chateau for this event. Tourelles de Longueville 2012, Chateau Pichon Baron 2012, Chateau Pichon Baron 2002, and finally Chateau Pichon Baron 1988. To be able to drink this caliber of wine from such large formats was a real treat. The 1988 was the highlight of the evening and drinking spectacularly. Interestingly Jérôme said it is almost identical out of regular bottle as both have now hit their plateau of maturity. We finished with a Double Magnum (3L) of the wonderful Chateau Suduiraut 2007 from Sauternes which is also owned by AXA. All were matched with some amazing food, cooked just for us by a single talented Chef in the private dining room (The French Kitchen) at Sid at The French Cafe.
