It's often said, that you'll always remember the first time you tasted Krug. The style of this 'Rolls Royce' of Champagne Houses is so distinctive, much of it coming from the fact that every single wine is fermented in barrel, but has no malolactic fermentation for a strong acidic background, and then is aged for a very long time before release. Every wine they make is essentially a Prestige Cuvée, their cheapest wine is the Grand Cuvée at a not insignificant $275 a bottle... For this very special tasting our Fine Wine Manager Regan McCaffery lead us through an incredible lineup that started with the Grand Cuvée and headed up from there! Next up was the 21st Edition of the Rosé, followed by the rare single vineyard, single variety, Clos du Mesnil 2004. 100% Chardonnay from a single walled vineyard situated in the middle of the famed village of Le Mesnil sur Oger on the Cotes des Blancs. Next up another 2004, this time the vintage Krug, a match between shining Chardonnays (39%) and the backbone of Pinot Noir (37%) combined with the vivacity, tension and citrus notes of Meunier (24%). Finally a very rare and special bottle at $2500, a 1.5L Magnum of Krug Collection 1989. This is Krug Vintage 1989 that has been held back in the cellars for over 30yrs before disgorgement and release.
