It was fantastic seeing you all Thursday night. Below is a reminder of the Gins we tasted, suggestive pour, and a couple of fun ‘rules’ to play with during the upcoming summer months. Scapegrace Classic Gin (NZ) - Equal parts Gin and dry Tonic water, garnish with a slice of orange. If you prefer an added fruit burst, add a dash of East Imperial Yuzu or Grapefruit tonic. Four Pillars Rare Gin (Aus) - Equal parts Gin and the East Imperial Burma tonic water. Suntory Roku Gin (Japan) – Mix to preferred level using East Imperial Yuzu Tonic, Alternatively a dry soda water with a cucumber slice. Citadelle Original (France)- Use Soda water to retain a purity of expression, adding either citrus, mint, or cucumber to emphasise fruit, herbaceous or palate weight respectively, to match your preference Glendalough ‘Wild Botanicals’ (Ireland) - Herbaceous in nature use a touch of Rosemary and mint with soda water Rutte Gin (Netherlands) - The most approachable style in this line up, slightly higher ABV with a simple range of botanicals allowed us to play around and create a taller drink of any style. Essentially a crowd pleaser! Below is a basic summary on how the various mixes and garnishes can transform your drink Rosemary – Create a slightly astringent herbaceous gin Mint and Cucumber – cooling and weighted style Lemon and Orange – Fruit forwards and crisp Burma Tonic – Crisp, bitter and a touch of spice Yuzu/Grapefruit Tonic – Fruit forward, a dash of this can cut through intense spicy/herbaceous characters Soda Water – Dry, enhance the natural flavours of the gin and selected garnishes.
