The new release of Jura Single Malts is a massive departure from the Jura of the past. While we still have touches of peat and smoke coming through the range, the heavily peated Jura Single Malts that some of us loved will now no longer be available. However, the introduction of Sherry and other cask finishes add a new dimension to their line-up; starting from the Journey, which is essentially their entry level product, through to the Seven Wood release. You'll find a new exciting range of whiskies here which are very accessible, very fruity, and exceptionally well made. The winner on the night was the Jura 10-year-old, which finished in Oloroso Sherry cask was extremely popular, and you must try the 18-year-old which is finished in Premier Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux barrels. One of the highlights from the night was when Jak pulled out a Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2010 as an example of vintage date whiskies, these are becoming much more prevalent. There was plenty of discussion about age statement whiskies and non-age statement whiskies. Decided on the night, vintage dated whiskies are the way to go, where its aimed to focus in on a specific year the barley was made - giving each expression their own terroir.
