PADDY BORTHWICK
Borthwick Vineyard is nestled on an old stony river terrace encircled by spectacular views and tranquility in Wairarapa. After a century dedicated to the International meat trade, the founder's great grandson, Paddy established the Borthwick family vineyard in 1996. Totaling 27 hectares, the estate melds easily into the landscape and the peaceful riverside vineyard is conducive to excellent grape growing conditions. The stony, free draining alluvial soils and micro climate allow the grapes to grow in harmony in their environment, reveling in the unique surroundings.
The quality grapes grown here are due as much in part to the vineyards terroir, as to the winemaking skill of Paddy Borthwick. Warm daily temperatures, cool nights and low rainfall enhance the exceptional quality of fruit produced. Handcrafted and distinctive wines including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Noir are produced and bottled exclusively from grapes grown at the estate and reflect the true characteristics of the site.
