MOUTARD FAMILLE

The Moutard-Diligent family can trace their history of viticulture as far back as 1642, but it was not until the 1920s that they began producing champagne under their own name. Today, under the stewardship of François, Veronique, and Agnes Moutard, the estate consists of 22.5 hectares of vines in the Côte des Bar region of southern Champagne. The origins of the vineyard go back to Gallo-Roman times. Along with Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, the family is one of the few to still nurture the permitted Arbane, Petit Meslier and Pinot Blanc grapes, instilling these almost forgotten varieties with a new lease of life. Moutard produce a full range of champagnes, including the unique Cuvée des 6 Cépages, made from six different varieties, the only one of its kind. The non-vintage wines are all aged for at least three years, the vintage and prestige champagnes for ten to fifteen. Both Moutard?s rosé and Grande Cuvée non-vintage bottlings are produced from 100% Pinot Noir, with additional complexity achieved through the use of older reserve stocks.

LEGENDARY DRY WHITE WINES OF FRANCE

France is still home to some of the most revered wines in the world, yet often we concentrate on the great reds. Tonight our Fine Wine Manager Regan McCaffery will be leading us through all of the major white wines regions of France. As summer winds down we will be tasting some of the greatest examples from each of these. Many of these legendary dry white wines are made in tiny quantities, so the chanche to try these all together is very rare. We start in Jurancon in the foothills of the Pyrenees with the wonderful Les Jardins de Babylone Sec 2014 from Domaine Didier Dagueneau. Then we make our way north to the Loire Valley and Pouilly Fume, the home of Sauvignon Blanc. There we will drink the wine that the Domaine is world famous for, Domaine Didier Dagueneau Pur Sang 2015. For a completely different take on the variety we stop next in Bordeaux, at a region and an estate that is known for making the greatest sweet wine in the world. Tonight we will be trying the exquisite dry Chateau d'Yquem 'Y' from Sauternes. Our next stop is in Burgundy for two of the worlds greatest Chardonnay. We start in the north in Chablis with the Moutard-Diligent Grand Cru Blanchots 2014. Then to the worlds greatest chardonnay village Puligny-Montrachet, and the incredible Chartron Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru Clos des Chevaliers Monopole 2016. Next is the Northern Rhone, an area not so well known for it's white wines, but prepare to be blown away by the 100pt J.L Chave Hermitage Blanc 2016. The aromatic Eastern region of Alsace is next, with the biodynamic Domaine Josmeyer Hengst Grand Cru Pinot Gris 2010. Finally we finish back in the Loire Valley with an old and special Chenin Blanc, Mark Bredif Vouvray Grand Année 1983. Don't miss this very special evening of incredible whites.
