Being sheltered by the Tararuas mountains, Matahiwi Estate enjoys a long and dry growing season with warm days and cool nights. Matahiwi Estate believe that producing great wines take more than just ideal soil and climate, they believe that team work, passion and a shared vision are also important ingredients.

Matahiwi's logo, which is a Phoenix, represeting renewal symbolises the "rebirth of winemaking in the area since the prohibition." Matahiwi Estate is Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand accredited. They practice inter-row planting to promote healthy soils and biodiversity in the vineyard.
