Two precious parcels of land are home to Luna Estate’s Martinborough vineyards in the Wairarapa wine-growing region of New Zealand. Two distinct terroirs to create one magical wine selection. Our land and our place is at the heart of all we create but the human touch is ever present. Our passionate, dedicated team tends the vineyards, hand picks the fruit and lends an experienced but light touch to the winemaking. Our two vineyards thrive under this approach. When you respect and nurture the land, the rewards will always be seen in the wine. Modern technology paired with age-old winemaking craft.Having nurtured our grapes through the growing season and hand harvesting, our winemaking team uses minimum handling in the winery to preserve the purity and integrity of the fruit. When it comes to our Pinot Noir, most grapes are de-stemmed while some are left as whole bunches depending on our winemaking requirements. They’re all carefully hand sorted, guided into tanks to ferment then finally moved to oak barrels to begin the long, slow maturation process.Over the years we have trialed numerous coopers and have now established a program with a select mix of French Tonnelleries. We find medium toast, tight grain combinations work best for us and add the desired texture and finesse to our wine. The wine stays in oak on full yeast lees for up to a year.
