LOWBURN FERRY
Lowburn Ferry is located next to an historic ferry crossing over the Clutha River in New Zealand's Central Otago. The first vines were planted in 2000 by Jean and Roger Gibson. As a relatively young winery, the first wine Lowburn Ferry produced was its 2003 Pinot Noir which went on to win awards, including Champion Red Wine and Champion Pinot Noir at the NZ Winegrowers 2005 Bragato Wine Awards and Cuisine Magazine's five star honour.
Lowburn Ferry is family-owned and is only four hectares; possibly one of the most awarded per number of vines winery. Owners Roger and his wife Jean between them have an academic background in horticulture, soil science and ecology. It comes as no surprise that their winemaking style combines practical and scientific knowledge.
