Jamsheed was an ancient Persian King who was said to have accidently created wine through his fondness for fresh grapes that he stored in jars. The modern Australian story began after Gary Mill’s five-week vintage posting at Ridge Vineyards in California turned into a two-year, full-time position under the tutelage of master winemaker Paul Draper. From there Gary worked in Oregon and various regions within Australia before establishing Jamsheed in 2003.
He has a focus on single vineyard Syrah and aromatic white wines fashioned from unique old vine sites in Victoria. Produced with indigenous yeasts, long fermentations, old oak, unfined and unfiltered, with no additives, these are stunning wines in an exciting style, from one of the new breed of cutting-edge and adventurous Australian winemakers.
