GILBEYS

There is a lot of history behind Gilbey’s gin. Perhaps it would not exist today had the birth of Sir Walter Gilbey not happened way back in 1863. To make a long story short, it was Sir Walter’s eldest son, Walter Henry Gilbey, who through a merger formed the firm International Distillers and Vintners. In 1963 the firm subsequently moved to Harlow in Essex, where they built a large distillery producing Gilbey’s world famous gin. The Gilbey family now has no associations with the drinks industry however we do appreciate the founding of this dry London-style classic.
