COROFIN

Corofin and the Paterson family are inextricably linked through people and place. Corofin village on the river Fergus in County Clare Ireland was the home of Clifden House, residence of Marcus Joseph Paterson and his young family, prior to emigrating to New Zealand. The significance of Corofin as a spiritual home to the Paterson family has been recognised by every generation since Marcus and his family settled in Hawkes Bay in 1927. Home for Mike was a farm in the heart of the Waikato at Tauwhare - named Corofin. Here his parents made a life and a living from the land, fostering in their young family a strong connection to their environment and a healthy appreciation of farming values. A true sense of people and place.

About the Winemaker

Mike Paterson

"Both Anna and I have lived and worked in Marlborough for most of our careers and in that time have been lucky enough to gain considerable experience growing, making and marketing Marlborough wine. From our early days here we have always had a desire to start our own small wine business, established without compromise for quality and with complete authenticity. Working together to create something in celebration of our families and their connection to the land, is very important to us.Our ambition with all Corofin wines is to transmit a sense of place first, over fruit intensity or winemaking ambition. We have chosen to work with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay being the two varietals we believe will amplify the transparent expression we seek from the land.We are setting out to make wines that tell a story about some pretty special Marlborough sites. These wines reflect the dedication of grape growers whose vineyards act as a beacon of an individual terroir. Our growers all farm with organic and/or biodynamic principles and we believe it is our duty to maintain the integrity of these practices through the winemaking process.Hand-harvesting and sorting, whole berry/cluster ferment
