CLEARVIEW ESTATE

Established by Tim Turvey and Helma van den Berg in 1988, Clearview Estate Winery continues as a family owned and operated business. Clearview Estate produces iconic wines with pedigree, estate grown and hand crafted by people with passion since 1989. In 1991, the rustic Red Shed restaurant pioneered coastal vineyard dining, combining the cellar door and lunch restaurant, Mediterranean style, in a leafy vineyard setting. Situated in Te Awanga, on the Cape Kidnappers coastline of Hawke's Bay, the Estate enjoys a unique microclimate, an extended growing season and refreshing sea breezes. An unwavering focus on quality produces wines of great fruit intensity, with a strong commitment to sustainability in all aspects of the business.

About the Winemaker

Tim Turvey & Matt Kirby

Tim Turvey - Founder & Winemaker After years of hard graft in various pursuits, Tim Turvey let his interest in wine get the better of him when he and partner Helma van den Berg bought a block of land on the coast at Te Awanga. After more hard graft, the pair opened Clearview Estate Winery and Restaurant in 1991. The restaurant was one of the first in New Zealand to offer alfresco vineyard dining and the winery's first release of Reserve Chardonnay took the trophy for the top wine at the Royal Easter Show. Today, Clearview employs 20-50 people, exports to 10 countries, and produces 200,000 bottles of award-winning wine. Matt Kirby - Winemaker After completing his studies at Latrobe university in Melbourne, Matt Kirby, Winemaker of Clearview Estate has been lucky enough to have worked in many countries during his 17 vintages and witnessed some of the great terroirs of the word first hand. He moved with his family to Hawkes Bay in late January 2015 to join the team at Clearview Estate. Hawkes Bay has an amazing geology and climate for growing world class wines and he feels privileged to be able to continue to create the wines that Clearview Estate has become famous for.
