CHATEAU RIEUSSEC

Like many Bordeaux properties, Rieussec was confiscated during the French Revolution and auctioned off. After numerous changes in ownership, the estate ended up in the hands of Domaines Barons de Rothschild.

They bought the property in 1984 in partnership with Albert Frère (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy). The following year, Rothschild director Charles Chevallier was placed in charge of managing Château Rieussec.

The estate has one of the largest wineries in the appellation and boasts excellent terroir. It sits next to Château d’Yquem on the east and extends all the way to the border of Fargues and Sauternes, covering 92 hectares of gravel, sand, clay and limestone soils. The plantings are 90% Semillon 7% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle, with an average vine age of 25 years.

The property is close to the top of the Sauternes pyramid. With their intensely concentrated flavours and voluptuous textures, these are stunning wines that can age quite easily for decades.
