CHATEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU

The soils at Ducru-Beaucaillou are covered with large stones that lend themselves to the estate's name (Beaucaillou translating as 'beautiful stone'). The property can trace its roots back to the 13th Century. They are, in modern times, producing some of the finest wines they have ever made, thanks in part to the efforts of Bruno Borie, who inherited the estate from his father, Francis.

The 75-hectare vineyard is planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, with the average vine age 35 years, the oldest plot 'Les Sadons' planted all the way back in 1918. Ducru-Beaucaillou are operating at their highest level to date, thanks in part to the fact that, increasingly, only the very best fruit is used to make the Grand Vin. The wines are concentrated, supple, textural and harmonious, in a way that is only found in the best of the Bordeaux wines.
