Our Kelburn store is located in Kelburn Village which is a small stride up the hill from Victoria University. The Kelburn Village has a charming and neighbourly feel and is scattered with quaint stores and cafés. The Village is always bustling with students and commuting locals. Parking is easy, and often you can park outside the front door. With its close proximity to Wellington City, the store is very much a destination point in the Village.
Join us at Cafe Mode for the a look at NZ Syrah, focusing on Hawkes Bay and Waiheke Island. In recent times, Hawkes Bay Syrah has been receiving great praise and likened to Hermitage from the Rhone Valley in France, the homeland of Syrah. Some producers on Waiheke Island are having fantastic success with Syrah and Bordeaux blend, the Island lends itself to viticulture perfectly. This tasting will look at mainly the top end of the Syrah World. From Hawkes Bay: Pask Declaration 2009, Te Mata Bullnose 2011, Craggy Range Le Sol 2010, Trinity Hill Homage 2009. From Waiheke: Goldie 2011, Man O' War Dreadnought 2010, Passage Rock Reserve 2010, The Hay Paddock 2007.
That's right, every week, in every Glengarry store, there's a few open bottles for tasting on a Friday evening and our friendly team are always happy to answer any questions you may have about a particular drop. We'll have a few bottles open each Friday to tempt your palate, so feel free to drop on in! Try the Bilancia La Collina Viognier tonight.
NEIL - manages the Kelburn branch. Into everything wine but spreads his time evenly with beer and whisky. Neil is a wealth of knowledge on New Zealand wine, although Bordeaux and Italian wines have sparked his interest lately.
CHELSEA - is currently in her last year of a Biomedical Science degree at Victoria University, and is interested in learning about our different wine varietals. She particularly enjoys aromatic whites, but is starting to enjoy the occasional red too!
ANNELISE - studies at Victoria University and enjoys trying the variety of boutique beers on offer at the Kelburn store. With the newer, bigger beer fridge now operating, there are lots to try!
