General Tastings
We have an ever-rotating roster of tastings, with each store running a tasting calendar or wine club that caters to the wine enthusiasts in their respective areas. Outside of that, we often run tastings that may have a seasonal leaning, such as the release of the new vintage Sauvignon Blancs, or that celebrate a particular event: the landing of Beaujolais Nouveau, say, or the arrival of a shipment of Spanish spectaculars. Keep your mouse's eye here to be in the know...

Isabel Winery Tasting with Caitlin Tiller

Join Caitlin Tiller from Isabel as she takes us through their Estate wines, each matched with a Dida's Tapa. Isabel Estate is nestled into the heart of the Wairau Valley in Marlborough, situated at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. Marlborough is New Zealand's largest and most successful wine producing area renowned for the production of exuberantly fruity Sauvignon Blanc and intensely aromatic wines. We'll taste their Pinot Gris matched with Tuna Carpaccio; the Dry Riesling matched with Salmon Bilini with creme fraiche; the Chardonnay matched with Prawn cocktail and the Pinot Noir matched with Roasted lamb on rosemary skewers.

Kelburn Champagne Tasting

Join us in Kelburn Village for a long-lost event that is the wine club. We will aim to have monthly gatherings at Cafe Mode where we will try a number of offerings from the local Glengarry store. We hope to get winemakers, viticulturists, writers and plenty more in to host our tastings in the future. Let's kick off with a bang, and a fizz, with some bubbly goodness from France, Champagne. We will try a range of different styles from several houses in order to get everyone acquainted to what they like. Not a strictly non-vintage tasting, we will get a couple of vintage examples and there's no reason not to pop open something extra special named after our monk friend, Dom Perignon. For about the price of an ordinary bottle, you get to try 8! What's not to like?

We are exploring all things Rhone in June and will kick off with Southern Rhone. This is where Grenache is the predominant veriety but is usually blended with Cinsault, Syrah possibly Carignan and Syrah. Chateau Neuf is allowed thirteen varieties including a white so the possibilities here are endless. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate and the wines are fleshy and inviting. Quinta de la Rosa

Quinta de la Rosa is a family affair and have been producing wonderful port and wine since 1815. Quinta de la Rosa was given as christening present to Claire Feuhaeerd Sophias grandmother in 1906. In 1988 Sophia and her father Tim Bergvist relaunched Quinta de la Rosa as a top quality port producer. We will start with a white port and then try some reserve hwines and lastly finish with a mini vertical of some vintage. This is an opportunity to hear Phil Rowe wax lyrical about this often forgotten and underestimated drink.

Cuilleron Now and Then

Picked not quite from obscurity but certainly prior to him becoming the international star he is today Yves Cuilleron is one of the producers that I am proudest to present. His feel and passion for the grapes of the Rhone shine in every wine he makes from the humblest appellation wines to the most stellar. The wines are outstanding but his philosophy is simple, "Produce the best possible grapes. For this tasting we will focus on his reds: we will taste the just landed 2010's as well as a bit of a retrospective of some 2008 vintages.

Gaillard Vertically

Pierre Gaillard is described as a life adventurer landscaper/grape grower artisan vintner. Here is a man with a lot on the go never one to sit around and take it easy. He started with vineyards in Northern Rhone and has since been exploring through the South of France. For this tasting though we are firmly entrenched on the steep slopes of Northern Rhone. We are fortunate to be able to do two mini vertical tastings one from Cornas and the other is the illustrious Cote Rotie Rose Pourpre.

Brookfields 75th Anniversary

2012 was Brookfields 75th Anniversary, ('no' - it's not a typo.) Founded in 1937, the 2012 vintage sees Brookfields celebrating 75 years of being a vineyard/winery. Admittedly the wine styles have changed since the in the early years, moving from port, sherry and a little wine, to the range of premium Hawkes Bay varieties we enjoy today. We are celebrating Brookfields 75th Anniversary with a look back into the past, opening a wonderful selection of aged Brookfields 'Gold Label' Cabernet Merlot, going back to the 1995 vintage. Vertical tasting wines are: Brookfields 'Gold Label' Cabernet Merlot 2009, 2007, 2006, 2004, 2002, 2000, 1998 & 1995.
