Grant Taylor's name is synonymous with Otago Pinot Noir. As owner and winemaker, Grant has been crafting wines there since 1993 when the region was in its infancy with only 20 ha planted (today there are over 1700). Grant's accomplishments are well known in the wine world - he is possibly New Zealand's most awarded Pinot Noir producer, credited with winning the Best Pinot Noir Trophy at a major International Wine Competition in London an unprecedented three times; a feat achieved by no other winemaker in the world.

Established in 1998, the aim of Valli is to produce single vineyard wines with an emphasis on expressing the site with clarity and purity. Valli produces four single vineyard Pinot Noirs from distinctly different areas of Otago - Gibbston, Bannockburn, Bendigo and one from North Otago's exiting new wine growing region, the Waitaki Valley. Valli also produces a dry Riesling from over 30-year-old vines in the Alexandra basin, a sweet Riesling from Waitaki and a sweet rich Gewrztraminer. All four Pinot Noirs and Old Vine Riesling are multi award winners every vintage and also highly sought after by our customers with Valli wine demand always exceeding our supply.

Jen Parr

Having to settle for finalist last year, this year, winemaker Jen Parr of Valli Vineyards took out the big prize, named 2020 New Zealand Winemaker of the Year by Australasia's Gourmet Traveller WINE magazine. She is, we'd guess, somewhat driven, working as a consultant for Wild Earth, Kinross, Stewart Town Vineyard and Black Quail, and serving as a Wine Judge and a Mentor in the Women in Wine's Pilot Mentor Programme. Well deserved, we say.
