TE KANO

Like all who come here, the Lloyd Family fell in love with the other-worldly beauty of Central Otago - the land and the lifestyle.

The seed of a new future was sown; three vineyards, each planted with site specific varietals - including Central Otago’s signature Pinot Noir - allow our talented winemaker the luxury to select and blend only the most outstanding fruit each season.

On the slopes above Lake Dunstan - on land Te Kano Estate calls home, hundreds of Kowhai trees will grow - all seeded from the glorious 400 year-old native tree that has stood guard, blossoming first for tangata whenua, then for the gold prospectors and sheep farmers who followed.

Committed to rejuvenating the land and a sustainable future through re-planting and excellent stewardship, Te Kano is creating enduring sensory wine and lifestyle experiences which could come from nowhere else but Central Otago. Te Kano (Maori for seed), is for those who appreciate the rarest combination of layered elegance and sublime natural quality.
WINEMAKER

DAVE SUTTON

After obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Viticulture and Winemaking in 2005, Dave set out to explore the world of wine. Initially working as a viticulturalist in Marlborough and South Australia, he then worked winery harvests in the USA, Chile, Spain, Germany, France, Ukraine, Australia and around New Zealand.

A Central Otago vintage in 2010 opened his eyes to the potential in the region, and he spent the next 6 years working with some of the best fruit in the area, before joining Te Kano and the Lloyd family on their journey. His broad range of experiences have left him with an open mind and a soft touch, a desire to let the site express itself and allow the fruit to shine.
