Established in 1872, Matusalem is a family-owned producer of Carribean rum. While Matusalem was founded in Santiago de Cuba, the original Matusalem Distillery was confiscated by the Castro-Communist Government. Matusalem relocated to Santiago, Dominican Republic.
Matusalem's founders Benjamin and Eduardo Camp and Evaristo Alvarez believed that an old aging process was key to crafting the finest rum. Matusalem gets its name from Mathuselah from the Old Testament who lived for 969 years. As an old Spanish proverb goes 'Esto es mas viejo que Matusalem' ('It's older than Mathuselah').
