Situated in the north of Hawkes Bay, Esk Valley Estate could be considered one of the most spectacular winery sites in the country, with stunning views of the ocean and an enviable location sitting directly off one of the busiest state highways in the country.
The winery was first established by Englishman Robert Bird in 1933, and under the name Glenvale grew rapidly to become New Zealands fifth largest winery. In the 1980s, Glenvale was bought by George Fistonich, founder of Villa Maria Estate, and renamed Esk Valley Estate.
Today, Esk Valley Estate is run as an independent Hawkes Bay winery with its own vineyards and wine-making team, including award-winning winemaker Gordon Russell. Esk Valley produces some of the best red wines in the country and in recent years has built a strong reputation for its unique white wines.
