EGON MULLER

The Scharzhofberg is one of the finest vineyards in Germany. So great is its fame, it remains one of only a handful of German vineyards, whose wines are sold without mention of the village name. The vineyard was likely planted by the Romans. From its founding around 700 through the Middle Ages, it belonged to the monastery 'St. Marien ad Martyres' in Trier.

After the French Revolution and the occupation of the West Bank of the Rhine River by the revolutionary government, all church properties were seized and sold. Our great-great-grandfather acquired the Scharzhof estate in 1797 from the "Republique Française". Ever since, it has remained in the family.
