CASTELLO DI GABBIANO
Tuscany’s winemaking journey began over 3,000 years ago with the canny, vine-cultivating Etruscans. With everyone in the general vicinity keen on a good vino, it was inevitable that battles would eventually rage for control of this bountiful area, specifically between medieval aspirants Siena and Florence.
All this squabbling led to the construction of a host of fortified castles, one of them being the Castello di Gabbiano, located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Its vaulted cellars date back to the 12th Century, and wine has seemingly been produced within its walls from day one.
These days, using 140 hectares of revitalised hillside vineyards, tradition has been harnessed to technology via the employment of modern cultivation and winemaking techniques to create great wines in the rich Tuscan tradition.
