TOWNSHEND'S

Townshend’s was founded in 2005 by Martin Townshend. Townshend’s is a ‘Real ale brewery’ based in the heart of Nelson, the hop growing capital of New Zealand. As well as using Nelson hops, Townshend’s also uses ancient water, drawn up from under the Moutere Valley Clay. With their two secret, or not so secret, ingredients, and a passion for traditional brewing methods, Townshend’s has been winning Brewing industry awards and accolades including the title of New Zealand Champion Brewery 2014.

Townshend’s philosophy is simply, “get the best ingredients, treat them with respect and you’ll produce great product.” Martin, Townshend’s Chief Brewer, is big on natural fermentation and believes in brewing the way people have done so for centuries. “Our brews have the depth of flavour that only comes from natural fermentation. You just don’t get that in processed beers even the so-called natural ones”, says Martin.
