SAINT ESTEPHE
St Estephe is located on the left bank of the Gironde and is the most Northern of the Medoc appellations. Wines are predominately made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with the addition of small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. In the 1855 classification, only four wines from St Estephe were classified, including the jewel of this appellation – Chateau Cos’d Estournel. Somewhat of a poor cousin to the stronger Medoc appellations of Pauillac, Margaux and St Julien, there’s a large number of Cru Bourgeois producer in St Estephe that represent great value.
