Ben and Mario Barletta joined secateurs with a couple of financiers in 2003 and launched the Solitary Block label. Their approach is thoroughly modern; rather than owning specific sites, they target single vineyards each vintage to produce outstanding examples of limited release wines. These individual expressions are all about character, personality and reflecting the tiny blocks - and the vintage conditions - from whence they come. Vinified by the legendary Neil Pike at his Clare Valley winery, the brothers’ release schedule sums up their whole philosophy. When are the wines are put on the market? 'When they’re ready.' In essence, Mario and Ben Barletta’s philosophy of Barletta Brothers has always been straightforward. It is to continue small hands-on quality production aimed at expressing a strongly defined 'style'. "Wines that are enjoyed for their style are all that a winemaker can hope for, understanding that all wines will have their own particular following". In this sense, Barletta Bros will continue to develop and refine this 'style' and progressively add to its band of followers.
