TARRAS

Some of the oldest soils in New Zealand are being farmed with some of the oldest traditions of winemaking to produce Tarras Vineyards wines. The two estate vineyards are located on the banks of the Clutha River in the Bendigo region of Central Otago. Bendigo is quickly becoming the new light of the Central Otago Pinot Noir flame.

There is a collective ambition of the vintner's team at Tarras which is headed by Hayden Johnston – Manager. Chad Douglas the Viticulturist incorporates organic and sustainable practises within the vineyard and Winemaker Carol Bunn produces a range of wines that represent an artisan approach to winemaking. Within the range of wines crafted are the Single Vineyards series of Pinot noir, 'Canyon' and 'The Steppes'. 'Canyon' vineyard produces the more masculine strength of Pinot Noir and 'The Steppes' the feminine personality of Pinot Noir. The 'Estate' wine is our marriage of both the feminine and masculine qualities of both sites. Tarras Vineyards' first vintage was in 2006, and already has won international acclaim winning gold medals and five star ratings in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. The summer of 2009 will be the first time that Tarras Vineyards has started to sell wines throughout the New Zealand market.
