Dominio de Tares has been drawing out the essence of El Bierzo since 2000, working the mencia, godello and prieto picudo varieties across this historic corner of northwest Spain. Set among ancient vineyards and reserves of real natural and cultural value, the winery became the driving force behind Bierzo's revival, recovering the region's best old vine sites and pioneering age worthy wines within the denomination.
Their reach extends into Los Oteros in Leon too, home of prieto picudo, a variety that had all but disappeared by the late twentieth century. Dominio de Tares has continued its legacy there, producing wine from centenary vineyards that had been left abandoned, giving new life to a near lost tradition.
Guided by minimal intervention in the cellar and a deep respect for their terroir, the team crafts wines built for both early drinking and long ageing. It is a philosophy rooted in preserving a centuries old winemaking heritage while building something of lasting value for the generations that follow.
