Premier Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion producer Château Larcis Ducasse enjoys a
history dating back to Roman times and has belonged to the Gratiot-Attmane family
since 1893. Prior to the new millennium it had been years since Larcis Ducasse had
enjoyed any sort of decent reputation for their wines, but that all changed when they
hired consultants Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt in 2002 to manage
the estate and turn things around.
11 hectares are planted in 78% Merlot and 22%
Cabernet Franc, with the stated goal sustainable vineyard management and higher
density with lower yields. The wines are much improved these days, elegant and
balanced with fine tannins and a fresh minerality.
