PROTOS

Protos (from the Greek word for ‘first’) had its beginnings in 1927 when a group of local vine growers created this, the first winery in Spain’s Ribera del Duero region. There are excellent natural wine storage facilities in the heart of the mountain holding up the Castle of Peñafiel.

In 1995, the cellar was enlarged and the winery moved into the global spotlight. Protos now has about 100 hectares of its own vineyards. In addition, it is supplied by an additional 500 hectares belonging to associates, as well as approximately 300 more from winegrowers in the area who have become regular suppliers.
