Sustainable Distiller of the Year - Whisky Magazine | 2022 Icons of Irish Whiskey Awards

Whiskey making has been in the Teeling family since 1782, and sustainability is at the heart of their business model. Initiatives include the installation of a rainwater harvesting system in the distillery and an onsite well to reduce water consumption. Energy use is optimised through the harnessing of excess energy produced during the production process. Teeling achieved FEMAS accreditation in 2017 for their spent grain and pot ale, which are on-sold as cattle and pig feed. They are a member of Ireland's Origin Green, the world’s only national food and drink sustain-ability programme, adhering to measurable targets that respect the environment and serve local communities more effectively. 100% family owned and operated from Dublin by brothers Jack and Stephen Teeling, the Teeling Whiskey Co. are well-known for doing things a little differently, and their hand-crafted, small batch Irish whiskeys embody this entrepreneurial spirit, with no chill filtering or added colouring. Designed to be a bridge between standard blended whiskeys and the rarified world of single malts, the Teeling philosophy is to create premium quality blends with unique flavour profiles.

Alex Chasko

A graduate of Heriot-Watt university's prestigious brewing and distilling course, Alex Chasko started his career as a brewer at the Bridge Port Brewery in Portland, Oregon. However, his love of spirits and distillation took him halfway around the world, where he took over as innovations manager at Cooley distillery in Ireland.

When the Teeling family, owners of Cooley at the time, sold the company and started a project to build a new distillery, Alex went with them as one of their first employees. He was a key part of the team who designed and built the new distillery, and is now responsible for the development, distilling and blending of Teeling's new whiskey range.
