87/100 | Robertparker.com - Monica Larner "La Viarte means “springtime” in the local Friulano dialect. Today, this 35-hectare estate is managed by Alberto Piovan who keeps to the traditions and techniques of the winery’s founder, Giuseppe Ceschin who established the estate in 1973.Executed in a bold, more concentrated style, the 2009 Friuli Colli Orientali Schioppettino di Prepotto shows a different side to this red grape that is usually crafted in a much easier and lighter style. A dark, garnet appearance segues to more elaborate tones of Indian spice box, crushed clove, juniper and pine resin (the wine is aged in oak for 12 months). In line with the variety, there’s a tight vein of acidity that freshens up the thinly textured backend."
