The Death Valley Malbec comes from a small, breathtakingly steep, north facing single vineyard, on the warm clay hillside of Eastern Waiheke Island. Hand harvested and picked very ripe, the fruit was so perfectly fragile it essentially crushed itself before going in the vat. It then had 9 months in old French oak, before 5% got swapped into new American oak for the final 2 months. Deep in colour with a beautifully floral perfume of plums and blueberries. The palate is wonderfully pure and vibrant, with a silky texture and very fine tannins. This is concentrated and complex with a very long finish, an outstanding example of New Zealand Malbec.
