What a fantastic Bordeaux tasting of the incredible 2018 vintage. The wines tasted were some of the best examples of these Chateau we’ve ever tried. Blanc de Lynch Bages 2018 to start with was fresh, vibrant, and delicious right now. The backbone and firm acidity giving it all it needs to age gracefully. A drink now or cellar wine. The two right bank wines were both brilliant and so different in style, which was delightful. Chateau La Fleur Petrus was all charm and delight. Chateau Belair Monage brooding and persistent. Chateau Smith Haut Lafite finished off the first flight of four, putting exclamation mark on the line up. What a great wine from this property in 2018. The second flight started with Chateau Brane-Cantenac. A wine that highlighted the clarity in styles of the different appellations. It was all class and clearly Margaux. Chateau Pontet Canet was a divisive wine, so unique and exquisite. I sat and tasted this into the evening. As this evolved in the glass, its impeccable pedigree shone. Chateau Calon Segur then won many hearts, the quality from this Chateau has never been as high. All the wines were amazing that's for sure. Chateau Leoville Las Cases putting the finishing touches on an excellent afternoon, our final wine and what a way to finish. Having now tried these, I'm sure you will agree with us that overall, this is a great to excellent vintage. Although this does come on the back of many very good vintages in Bordeaux, this is a vintage to explore, one that will benefit those who put it in the cellar and one that does demand serious attention. The purity and seductive nature of the best wines from this vintage will ensure that.
