We were very pleased to be able to host Jérôme Pilet from AXA Millésimes in Bordeaux here for the first time this week. In 1987 they acquired Château Pichon Baron in Pauillac as well as a property in Burgundy, Domaine de l’Arlot. Important investments, both in the vineyards and in the cellars, were carried out in the years following these purchases. Then succeeded further acquisitions in Bordeaux: Château Pibran in Pauillac (1989) and Château Petit-Village in Pomerol (1989) as well as Château Suduiraut in Sauternes (1992). Also in 1992, and following the fall of communism in the eastern bloc, AXA Millésimes was able to purchase the historic vineyard of Disznók? in Tokaj, Hungary. The following year, Quinta do Noval in Portugal was acquired. Jerome hosted a fantastic tasting where we did a tour of many of these properties. Starting with the dry white S de Suduiraut and the Merlot dominant Chateau Petit Village Pomerol 2014. we then looked at two wines from the great 2016 Bordeaux Vintage, Tourelles de Longueville 2016 and it's big brother, Chateau Pichon Baron 2016. This is destined to be remembered as one of the greats from this year. The second flight was all sweeter wines. Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes 2007 was looking excellent. We then had two Tokaji from Disnoko, the late Harvest 2016 and the incredible 6 Puttyonos 2002. Finally we finished with the 10 yr Old tawny Port from Quinta do Noval, perhaps the greatest of all the houses. A few lucky customers also joined Jerome for lunch on Friday where they got to experience some older vintages of Chateau Pichon Baron, the 2012, 2003 and 1999.
