If you love red wine, this is one tasting you need to come to once in your life. Each year Glengarry presents the most recent vintage arrivals of the Bordeaux 1st Growths. Designated in the 1855 Classification, these are among the greatest wines in the world. This year we were lucky enough to be tasting the 2016 Vintage, regarded by many commentators (and the Chateau themselves) as one of the finest vintages every produced in Bordeaux. A tasting of this level requires a great Champagne to start, so we began with the rare $600 Henri Giraud Argonne 2008. Then into the reds, ranging from $1700 to over $2000 a bottle! Two wines from the Merlot dominated Right Bank were first up, Chateau Lafleur Pomerol 2016, and Chateau Cheval Blanc St Emilion 2016. Then four of the Five First Growth estates side by side, what an opportunity. Chateau Haut Brion Pessac Leognan 2016, Chateau Margaux 2016, Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2016, and finally the legendary Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2016. We double decanted all of these 8 hours beforehand to prepare them for the tasting, but these are wines that will continue to provide drinking pleasure after they are 50 yrs old, We finished with the only wine that would be suitable for an occasion such as this, the 2016 Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes, regarded as possibly the finest sweet wine int he world for hundreds of years. Join us next year for this incredible experience.
