When the Jancis Robinson X Richard Brendon glasses came out, we thought that it was a nice-looking glass. Richard is a designer who launched his company in 2013. He has found artisan producers from around Europe to make his bone china and cut crystal items. For this project, he has collaborated with Jancis Robinson, to bring out a small range of elegant crystal glasses and carafes. Jancis herself has had input right through the production process. Along with 11 others, we put the glass through its paces last Wednesday night. The wines that we chose to test it out were extremely different. We now realise that we had totally underestimated this elegant vessel. It brought out the best characteristics from each wine that we tried, Meredith’s personal favourite being the champagne. We used the Grower Champagne Lassalle Preference and while previously we have enjoyed this Champagne, this time it was nuanced and floral and showed the true delicacy of this wine. The other rather obvious benefit is no longer having to put out so many glasses when hosting a dinner party. They are designed to fit in the dishwasher, this was a prerequisite from Jancis apparently. I am not saying that you should rush out and buy theses immediately, but as breakages occur, you may want to consider replacing with One Glass.
