The 2019 vintage in Burgundy against all odds proved to be a delight. What is certain is that the wines are exceptional, this is a brilliant vintage for the region, a triumphant year.
Sadly, the early frosts saw producers lose much of their volume. Yields down by up to 60% not uncommon. Whilst in larger regions, with sustainably larger vineyard sizes, this yield reduction presented a challenge, it was exaggerated in Burgundy where the general size of each parcel is already incredibly small. Production that might have been one or two barrels, now a half, and if lucky, one barrel.
With quality very high, the disastrous conditions lie with the market. Alongside smaller yields, resulting in restricted allocations, is an insatiable thirst for these great wines. Combine this with interest from newer emerging markets, and allocations from the 2019 vintage are tough to secure.
With the remaining quality so high, and given the insatiable thirst for these great wines, allocations from Burgundy’s 2019 vintage have been restricted and tough to secure. However, our longstanding relationships have seen us through, and we’re able to offer a very good selection of the 2019 wines. The quantities available are very small; you’ll find online those that are readily available (relatively). In the offer are those that are scarce.
For the rarities, please contact us via finewine@glengarry.co.nz with the details of the wines you are interested in. Domaine Michel Gros is not included in this offer. The wines from this Domaine are due into New Zealand in July, and will be offered when they arrive.
