THREE MINERS

Three Miners Vineyard was established on the banks of the Clutha River in Central Otago, New Zealand in 2000. Currently, we have 12.5 ha of Pinot Noir, 2 ha of Pinot Gris, 1 ha of Riesling and 1 ha of Gewurztraminer. The name Three Miners originates from the Central Otago gold rush days of the early 1860s when three men formed a company to mine the land the borders the vineyard for gold. They invested in water and were able to cut water races across the land which is now the vineyard to direct water down into other Miners claims to sluice the gold from the gravel. All the Three Miners wines have names from Central Otago’s gold mining past – Wardens Court Pinot Noir, Miners Right Pinot Gris, Herringbone Riesling, Chinaman Stone Gewurztraminer and Rocker Box Rose. The vineyard is owned by Kirstin and Paul Wright who purchased the property in December 2014. A team approach is used at Three Miners to produce fabulous wines. Three Miners Viticulturalist Gary Crabbe ensures optimum quality of our grapes before Wine maker Pete Bartle coaxes the best out of them to make wines with poise, texture and balance.

About the Winemaker

Pete Bartle

Pete Bartle was once a mechanic but has been in the wine industry for the past 22 years. For the last 14 years, Pete has called Central Otago home and is one of the region’s most successful wine makers. Pete has crafted more than 30 trophy and well over 100 gold medal wines. Pete believes wines are grown with most of the good work done before the fruit arrives at the winery. It is his job to coax the best out of the Three Miners grapes and to make our wines with poise, texture and balance.
