PASSAGE ROCK

Passage Rock wines was established in 1993 By David and Veronika Evans Gander when they were in their mid Twenties. Fuelled by a passion to make premium wine they embarked on their journey with grit and enthusiasm, and fingers crossed all would work out. The site they carefully chose was located some 10 km further east than any other Waiheke vineyards , Initially the locals were questioning if this was the right move, but all was proven wrong even with the first vintage gaining 5 stars in Winestate and subsequent Syrah's being awarded Gold medals each year since 2003.

15 years on Passage Rock has been one of the success stories to emerge from Waiheke it now produces some of the best Syrah in the country along with other highly rated wines from its portfolio. The vineyards now consist of carefully chosen sites in Oneroa , Rocky bay and the original Vineyards at Te Matuku Bay. The Range of Wines produced include a Waiheke island Grown Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier, and in the Red Range includes Cabernet Merlot and Syrah.

DAVID EVANS

David Evans began his winemaking Career in 1989 studying at Roseworthy College Adelade Austrailia. After a year fulltime Studies he took up employment at one of Western Austrailias most prestegeous wineries Vasse Felix. After working there for several years He travelled to Switzerland to be with his Swiss Bride Veronika where he learned more about Sustainable viticulture and European winemaking techniques. In 1993 Passage Rock Wines was established by David and Veronika, Here with the philosophy of fully ripe grapes and careful winery management numerous award winning wines have been crafted.

Every wine produced from our cellar goes back to the following winemaking principals. Excellent fruit well managed will produce wines of intense aromas and succulent texture . The winemaker's job is to capture the flavours of the season and through minimal and careful practices deliver it back to the consumer in the glass .
